Tips for First Time Flyers

In 1995, the first course was delivered through the web at Penn State University. Today, countries such as China, Malaysia, South Korea and the U.S. utilize the web for distance learning. Its emergence opens doors to various classes or workshops conducted online like the IELTS online review.

Individuals who want to pursue their career in other countries enroll in an IELTS online review to acquire certifications needed to qualify in some English-speaking countries such as the UK and Canada. Mock IELTS tests online are also available to prepare students for the actual exam. Meanwhile, if you choose to enroll in study centers, you can take practice IELTS tests online to hone your skills. After obtaining your desired band score in the language aptitude test, you can now burst in excitement for your trip to your dream destination. However, some people start having perplexing thoughts when they think about “flying.”

Tips for Your First Airplane Ride

Preconceived ideas about flying can overwhelm first-timers. Listed below are some tips to help you prepare for your first trip.

1. Book your flight. Look for flight schedules online. You can purchase a ticket using debit/credit cards or online payment systems like PayPal. Confirm the date, time and seat number to avoid hassles during your flight.

2. Ensure that your luggage meets the airline requirements. Airlines have different luggage specifications. Make sure that you check them online—the weight limit, height and length of suitcases—so you will not have to unpack stuff or pay for excess luggage. For instance, if you are going to the UK, a new safety requirement is introduced, restricting the weight of luggage to 32 kg.

3. Pack your carry-on bag carefully. Ensure that your ID, passport, boarding pass, wallet, mobile phone and other valuables are in your hand luggage. Also, take note of restrictions. For instance, most airlines restrict the size of carry-on bags to 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm.

Meanwhile, if you are carrying some liquid substances such as perfume, gel and lotion, note that these must not exceed 100 mL and should be stored in a resealable bag not larger than 20 cm x 20 cm. Furthermore, avoid carrying sharp objects, such as scissors and blades, as these are prohibited and can raise suspicion.

4. Inquire about your destination. Know the whereabouts and, most importantly, note the emergency hotlines and locations of hospitals and police stations, among others. Bringing a map is also helpful when traveling. Another thing you should remember is to keep an eye on the do’s and don’ts in specific countries. Research about the place, the people and their culture. For example, some countries observe strict dress codes. You may want to check whether this is applicable to tourists or foreign students/workers.

5. Follow security guidelines. Make sure that you arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight. While waiting, you can go around to familiarize yourself with the process. You will need to check in at the airline desk and present your passport and proof of booking.

When you go through the security, you have to show your passport and boarding pass. Furthermore, remove your shoes and jacket (if you are wearing one), and place them on a plastic bin at the screening machines. If you have your laptop with you, put it in a separate container and send it down the conveyor along with your hand luggage. Make sure that you retrieve your items after you pass through the metal detector.

6. Sit back and enjoy the ride. The flight attendant will escort you to your seat. Place your hand luggage under the seat in front of you or the overhead bin. During the flight, you can request for a blanket if you feel cold. There are also lavatories in case you need to go to the restroom. If there is anything else you need, do not hesitate to ask for assistance.

Be vigilant when faced with a new situation. Make the most of your first airplane ride by taking note of the abovementioned travel tips.
